The Key to Life
To Live for Yourself Is to Die Alone
“Your Destiny Isn’t Chosen, but Who You Are Is Yours to Define”

Written by: Ali Almawali

Your Destiny Isn’t Chosen, but Who You Are Is Yours to Define.

The journey to reach one’s goals is a part of the greater distance between life and death. We enter this world naked, owning nothing, not even our names. We receive them in the sterile halls of hospitals. From that moment, our identity begins to form. We are visitors to life, passing through a fleeting chapter of existence. Like an ever-turning wheel, life welcomes millions each day. It bids farewell to millions more. Yet, among the countless faces, some leave indelible marks, immortalized by their actions. These individuals remind us that we all must go. But our legacy carries on. Such is the nature of existence.

We live a lot, we gather much, but we leave as we came—naked and empty-handed. The gateway to this world bears an unchanging truth: “Everything you gather here, leave it here.”

No matter how beautiful the journey may seem, stay prepared. Even when you feel safe, decline and uncertainty are inevitable. Life’s challenges are unpredictable. But those who are strong and experienced are better equipped to face these crises. They have embraced their joys and sorrows and learned from both. They watch others’ stories and learn from their resilience. So, they face hardships with wisdom and emerge stronger and more grounded.

Nurture relationships and surround yourself with the warmth of family and loved ones to prepare for old age. Life should not culminate in solitude, confined to a nursing home with no one to visit or care for. Instead, those who share similar journeys and understand life’s trials should live it.

Who are you?

Some believe that certain individuals are experts in life, capable of understanding the true nature of people, their character, and the contents of their hearts. But such beliefs often stem from ignorance and exaggeration. Every person is like a book—its title may be easy to read, but the depths of its pages hold another world entirely, a world whose secrets remain hidden from the ignorant and the overly curious.

Many claim to understand the truths of others, yet they remain blind to their own reality, ignorant of who they truly are. How can someone who does not fully know themselves hope to perceive the hidden secrets of others, their hearts, their souls, and the worlds concealed within them?

It takes years of introspection to begin understanding ourselves, and even then, some of life’s greatest mysteries about our own nature may remain undiscovered. Some people leave this world without fully knowing the depths of their own being.

That is why it is essential for a person to dedicate time to self-reflection. When one gains a deeper awareness of their inner self—unveiling the secrets they carry and understanding their own complexities—they will no longer speak with the ignorance of someone who claims to know others. Instead, they will approach the personalities of others with thoughtfulness and clarity, free from presumption and shallow judgment.

Sometimes, you feel like a stranger in this world, as though you belong to another planet. Despite all you’ve learned and studied in life, despite the books you’ve written and the articles you’ve published, you come to realize that you are merely a drop in the vast ocean. This realization humbles you, urging you to move through life with quiet caution, mindful of the weight of your words.

Every word you speak carries significance—they cannot be taken back once spoken. They have the power to shape your identity, to reveal the essence of who you are. Others judge you through the words you cast out, sometimes carelessly, not realizing their lasting impact. These words may become the source of your happiness or the cause of your misery, leaving an indelible mark on how the world perceives you.
