What does a person want from life?

This question has accompanied humanity since it became aware of its existence, and it has recurred throughout history in different forms, but it remains the same question. Human beings live a journey in which they first come to know themselves, and then the world around them. Some reach a clear understanding of the meaning of their existence, while for others life passes them by without granting them the time or courage to honestly ask the question: Why am I here?

There are those who realize that their existence in this life is neither accidental nor meaningless, and that they were not thrown into this world without purpose, but came for a reason, and were entrusted with a message, waiting for someone to discover it and understand its meaning.

Thinkers have spoken of perception and insight, some considering them a connection with the self; a sincere return to the deep soul that holds both questions and answers. For a person to know themselves leads to understanding the reason for their existence, the meaning of their life, and the ultimate, inescapable question: Where do we go after this journey ends?

But many chose to escape these questions. They disabled their awareness, allowing themselves to drift into the pleasures and delights of life, living in the moment without regard for the future. And when the pleasures lost their meaning, and the gratification reached its end, some found themselves facing a deep inner void, which nothing could fill, and nothing could answer.

Is life merely a temporary experience without purpose?

Does human existence end at the limits of pleasure and experience, and then proceed to an unknown and meaningless future?

In the many letters and memoirs left by those who came before us, we read a recurring search for meaning, and for an incomplete answer. Strangely, despite the vast amount of knowledge and experience humanity has accumulated, it still evades the answer closest to it, preferring to seek distant alternatives, perhaps because they are less demanding and have a less profound impact on the psyche.

This series is not so much a search for new answers as it is a return to the original question, to the meaning that has accompanied humanity since its beginning. It is a journey in which we attempt to approach the understanding that Islam has offered of humanity: who we are, why we exist, how we live, and where we are going.
